Dagens favoritman. Favourite man of the day.

Mannen som organiserade allt! The man organizing it all!

I am off to bed after a fantastic day. I am so happy to do this!

In the long house.

After the celebrations we are all invited into the 40 meter long house,
normally only used by the men. Fantastic artifacts are for sale.

Another little bag from a medicinman!

Fierce looking? They were very friendly though.

The Asmat people still live very much like long ago, marrying several women,
sharing women*)or being intimate among the men.**) They live periods in the
long house and the women and the children are in their separate houses all on
high stilts from the tidal water.

*) papitsj  **) mbai
These two customs the missionaries tried to stop and it has also been disputed
if they ever existed or do exist at all.

The greeting by the women and the children.

Alla vinnor och barn väntar på något...
All women and children waiting for something...

och pojkarna utanför det "långa Huset"
and the boys in the "long House"

...then they arrive. Men with huge trunks. To the beat of drums, very loud
and all starts to dance.

The Mbis pole ceremony is in the center in front of the "long House".
The beat of the drums, children rushing in the mud, all women dancing
and all of us absolutly astonished! What a party!
There are 1600 people living in this village and today they are all here.

The greeting by the warriors.

We are leaving our ship and are greated by this captain and..

his fleet of at least 50 canoes and hundreds of warriors shouting and rowing very fast.

Asmat- Syuru 17/2

Se den gula markeringen under New längs
kusten.

Kamraten räddades men Michael återfanns
aldrig.
The Metropolitan Museum i N.Y.

48 hours trip from Thursday Island to the Asmat region, the yellow spot under New
on Western Guinea ( Indonesia)
Very few come here and the most famous one was Michael, the 23 year old son
Of Nelson Rockefeller. He disapeared in 1961 and was never found.
He colleced Asmat artifacts and the can today be seen at Metropolitan Museum
Of Art in N.Y.

Sköldar använda i strid.
The special schields used in war and ansectors masks.

My favourite figure with bow and arrows and the paddel for his canoe.
